Life Coaching = Learning the Art of Self-Love

“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” ~ Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball’s quote struck me the first time I heard it. What? Self-love? Isn’t that, well…selfish? Over the years, as I swim my way toward more self-love, Lucy’s quote sticks with me through thick and thin as a reminder that I serve others best when I take good care of myself.

Do you think self-love is easy? Not for everyone. Can you look at yourself in the mirror with kind eyes? Can you relax those self-critical thoughts into kind words, words you’d use if you were talking to a child? Self-love may well be the hardest work we do while we’re here doing the work of life.We just might need to create a love padlock like lovers in Europe do, to symbolize our deep devotion to ourselves as children of the Divine. Self-love is not selfish, it’s self-full. It’s when we don’t sacrifice our own dreams for the dreams of others. Self-love means we are able to share more of ourselves with others. We’re not needy creatures looking for a partner to fill us up. We don’t turn toward our children, our friends, our work, or substances to fill the void we feel when we know we’re not following the path of our own fulfillment. Self-love is a commitment to exploring and being the most authentic version of ourselves, just as we were meant to be.

Are you at a turning-point in your life? Do you ever feel stuck? Do you ever feel as if you know there’s more to life, but you just can’t seem to find your way to it? Are you afraid to follow the path that is right for you because of what other people in your life might think? This is where having a life coach can be a huge support. As your personal coach my deepest work is to listen to and support you. I’m an objective listener who can say the direct and clear words to help you follow the path to a life lived authentically. I help people untangle habitual thought patterns and teach people to follow Divine guidance, their own inner guidance system.

The thing I am most excited about is when I have the honor of serving as a guide for people as they experience of the more of themselves. My hope is that each of my clients might experience a multitude of Aha! Moments, those moments in our lives where we feel in alignment with our purpose, moments that lighten our energy and bring a sense of renewed commitment to our soul growth. I love to do this with my life-coaching and writing clients. That’s what Lucille Ball was talking about. That’s self-love. Love for self is just as important as love for others. You really do have to love yourself in order to live an authentic life.
